Overview
You know what, as soon as I stepped into the Hotel Pension Baron am Schottentor, I knew I was in for a treat. Tucked away on Währinger Straße in the Alsergrund district, this 4-star hotel is a hidden gem in Vienna, Austria. Honestly, the rating of 7.7 doesn’t do it justice – it’s more like a cozy, boutique hotel with a personal touch.
The first thing that struck me was the warm, welcoming atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making check-in a breeze. I mean, they even offered to store my luggage when I arrived early, which was a lifesaver. The rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated, with a blend of modern and traditional Austrian design. You can hear the hustle and bustle of the city outside, but it’s surprisingly quiet inside, which was a pleasant surprise.
What makes this place special is its location. It’s just a stone’s throw from the Schottentor, a historic gate in the city walls, and the bustling Universitätsstraße, where you’ll find a plethora of cafes, bars, and shops. The hotel is also within walking distance to the beautiful Votivkirche and the picturesque Alsergrund park, which is perfect for a leisurely stroll. If you’re a fan of public transport, the tram stop is just around the corner, making it easy to explore the rest of Vienna.
Now, I have to mention the breakfast. It’s honestly one of the best I’ve had in a hotel. A wide variety of fresh pastries, bread, and cold cuts, along with a hot buffet. There’s also a Nespresso machine, which was a nice touch. And the best part? It’s included in the price, which is a steal for a hotel of this caliber.
In terms of practicalities, there’s limited parking available, but it’s not too pricey. The hotel is generally quiet, but during the summer months, you might hear some noise from the nearby park as locals enjoy the warmer weather. Overall, I’d highly recommend Hotel Pension Baron am Schottentor for anyone looking for a comfortable, well-located base in Vienna. It’s a place where you can truly feel at home, and that’s something you don’t find everywhere.

The view from the balcony was amazing, everything was near to this hote.l You have a lot of different transportation in front of the hotel. Immediately beside the hotel you can buy coffee and breakfast. We are grateful to the personnel of this hotel because they explained to us how to and where to park with our car it was the best deal for one day in Otto wagner parking garage so many thanks to the personnel of this hotel.
Location great, and good size room and ensuite
Interesting location in an old building. The foyer and reception area is quite grand. The staff were friendly.
The hotel was located in an old building but was very clean. My room had a view of the Votive Church, offering a beautiful sight both during the day and at night. It was a quiet, hassle-free, and comfortable experience overall. However, I felt a bit uneasy about the hotel’s entrance door and other rooms being opened with traditional keys. When I mentioned this to the receptionist, they assured me that I shouldn't worry about my safety and explained that this practice is very common. Still, I thought it was something that shouldn't be the case, and I didn’t appreciate it. Apart from this, the hotel is in the city center, and you can walk to almost everywhere. It is also very close to metro and bus stops. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes around. Overall, it’s a hotel worth considering.
The location was good. But the hotel was dated and quite expensive.
Location
Our room was wonderful and spacious. Because there are other businesses in the building, they don't seem to care for the entrance. I was a bit worried when we the cab dropped us off because the front door area was a bit messy. However, when we reached our room we were pleasantly surprised.
There was a question about wifi- it wasn't consistent. Sometimes we would get it and sometimes we didn't.
A solid hotel just across the street from the Votiv Kirche. There are many cafes and restaurants in the neighborhood and overall the location was perfect.
Location
Room is quite compact and cosy. Good TV : has BBC & CNN channels ! ) Location is excellent !
